Atlanta to Host Olympic Preview as American Cup Returns to Georgia

Greater Atlanta will welcome some of the world's best gymnasts on March 6, as USA Gymnastics announced Friday that the 2027 American Cup will take place at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. The event will give fans an early look at the mixed team format set to debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with men and women competing together as national units for the first time on this stage.

A New Format Takes Center Stage

The 2027 American Cup will feature gymnasts from eight countries, with each nation fielding two to three men and two to three women - a maximum of six athletes per team. Scores from both squads will combine to crown a single team champion, a format designed to mirror what audiences will see at LA28. It's a structural shift for a competition long known for individual all-around drama, now reshaped into a fast-paced, nation-versus-nation showcase that should sharpen the sport's appeal heading into the Olympic cycle.

Building on a Star-Studded Las Vegas Edition

The move to Georgia follows a well-received 2026 edition in Las Vegas, which brought together the most dominant programs from the 2024 Paris Olympics and 2023 World Championships. China topped the standings ahead of the United States and Japan, with 12 Olympians and 23 World Championships-credentialed athletes from four continents taking part. USA Gymnastics expects the 2027 field in Duluth to be even deeper, as countries fine-tune their rosters ahead of the Olympic push.

Olympic Legacy Meets Local Growth

For organizers, the Georgia stop carries symbolic weight beyond the competition itself. "We look forward to the 2027 American Cup bringing international gymnastics back to Georgia and being an important part of the Olympic legacy from Atlanta 1996 through LA28," said USA Gymnastics President and CEO Kyle Albrecht. Gas South District & Explore Gwinnett President and CEO Stan Hall echoed that sentiment, pointing to the region's strong youth gymnastics base. "Metro Atlanta has a strong youth gymnastics community, and hosting an event of this caliber gives those young athletes the opportunity to see world class gymnastics right here at home," Hall said.

A Full Day of Competition in Duluth

The American Cup will close out a packed day of action at Gas South Arena on Saturday, March 6. Earlier that afternoon, the Nastia Liukin Cup Presented by Ozone will bring together the nation's top Level 10 women's gymnasts - athletes with NCAA and future Olympic potential - who qualify through meets held across the country during the winter season.

  • American Cup tickets start at $45; a bundled American Cup and Nastia Liukin Cup ticket starts at $50
  • Nastia Liukin Cup tickets start at $30
  • Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster
  • Competing countries and full schedules will be announced in the coming weeks at americancup.com

With the Olympic mixed team format making its first major American appearance outside LA28 itself, the 2027 American Cup positions Georgia as an early checkpoint in gymnastics' road to the next Games - one that local fans, and the sport's growing youth base in metro Atlanta, will get to witness firsthand.
