Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott announces NFL retirement

Boston Scott, a running back who earned the nickname "Giants Killer" for his performances against the New York Giants, announced his retirement from the NFL on Oct. 9, 2024.[1][2]

The 29-year-old Scott, listed at 5-foot-6, played college football at Louisiana Tech University in Conference USA before the Eagles selected him in the sixth round, 201st overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft.[3][4]

Scott appeared in 71 regular-season games for Philadelphia from 2018 to 2023, including 11 starts, with 1,284 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He added 86 receptions for 568 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. In eight regular-season games against the Giants, he rushed for 287 yards and four touchdowns.[3]

His final regular-season game came on Jan. 7, 2024, at MetLife Stadium against the Giants. In Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023, Scott had three carries for 10 yards as the Eagles lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.[3]

In 2024, Scott signed with the Los Angeles Rams on July 24 and was released on Aug. 27. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad on Sep. 17 before being released on Oct. 8.[3][5]

In a statement posted to social media, Scott reflected on his journey from a college walk-on to the NFL. "There is so much I’m proud of," he wrote. "I don’t feel sorry for myself in the slightest. There is anger, bitterness, but also joy, and happiness... plenty of things to feel."[1]

Scott also thanked his coaches, teammates and staff. "I'm thankful for everything the game has given me and my family," he added.[1]

Off the field, Scott has worked as a content creator with the esports organization Dignitas since 2023.[2]
